This beautiful 8 inch by 8 inch Portrait Book just went home with it’s new owners. It’s a one of a kind design – each image is hand retouched, and each page is designed with storytelling photography. Then it’s off to Italy to be printed and bound with real photographic pages, and a hard photo wrapped cover. I created this book with a light mint cover with subtle floral accents to continue the theme of florals from this family’s newborn announcements. View the full design below.
Being a surgeon is no joke. Long hours, time away from family, keeping up with education. It’s a lot. All of this, and also being a mom – takes a strong woman. J was so passionate about how it IS actually possible to do both, and you don’t really see images of surgeons with their babies. How could we not do an image like this one at F’s newborn photography session?
How sweet is this this baby boy? I knew he’d be the perfect little chunk after photographing his big sister a couple of years ago. He was feisty, but full of smiles, and it was fun catching up with these lovely people.
Something new that we are playing around with is behind the scenes video clips during sessions. Baby L was very awake, but happy, and so so sweet. See what it’s like in the studio in this behind the scenes video.

As a Halifax photographer, I’ve had the chance to visit some truly beautiful locations around our province. Following is a list of my top 5 favourite locations in the HRM. There are many more hidden gems, but I keep coming back to these, time and time again when my clients don’t have a special spot in mind for their photo session.
Incredible wide open spaces beside the sea. Stick to the water, or venture among the fishing boats. This place is bursting with Atlantic Canadian flair.
Point Pleasant Park
Great if you are located downtown. It has a small sandy beach, some open grassy areas, as well as some forrest trails. It also has some old military fort walls. It’s a great all around location with easy parking.
Cleveland Beach Provincial Park
Located between Queensland and Ingramport. What’s not to love? A sandy beach, a lake, and warm sunsets lighting up the water.
Oakfield Provincial Park
Near Fall River, it has a lakefront beach, lovely large open grassy fields with foot paths, and trails through the woods.
The Sir Sanford Fleming Dingle Park
A paved walkway along the water, lots of trees and shade, a stone tower, and lots of benches make this spot a wonderful option near the Armdale Rotary.
Runner up: The Frog Pond
Also super close to The Dingle is the Frog Pond. Let’s call it our runner up! It features a hiking trail around a lake, that is stunning in the fall.
This wonderful little miracle is a rainbow baby; a baby that comes after a miscarriage, stillborn, or neonatal death. She is like a rainbow after a storm: something beautiful after something scary and dark. Her parents experienced not one, but two losses before she arrived. The second of which, they had made it past the risky period of the first trimester only to loose the baby shortly after they announced the pregnancy to family. During this incredibly hard time, daddy got mummy a teddy bear to snuggle while they recovered and grieved. This teddy now snuggles baby as mommy once snuggled teddy. I understand how precious she is, especially after a loss, as my husband I also have a rainbow baby. I was so happy to make this image for this family.
