This beautiful 8 inch by 8 inch Portrait Book just went home with it’s new owners. It’s a one of a kind design – each image is hand retouched, and each page is designed with storytelling photography. Then it’s off to Italy to be printed and bound with real photographic pages, and a hard photo wrapped cover. I created this book with a light mint cover with subtle floral accents to continue the theme of florals from this family’s newborn announcements. View the full design below.
As a Halifax photographer, I’ve had the chance to visit some truly beautiful locations around our province. Following is a list of my top 5 favourite locations in the HRM. There are many more hidden gems, but I keep coming back to these, time and time again when my clients don’t have a special spot in mind for their photo session.
Incredible wide open spaces beside the sea. Stick to the water, or venture among the fishing boats. This place is bursting with Atlantic Canadian flair.
Point Pleasant Park
Great if you are located downtown. It has a small sandy beach, some open grassy areas, as well as some forrest trails. It also has some old military fort walls. It’s a great all around location with easy parking.
Cleveland Beach Provincial Park
Located between Queensland and Ingramport. What’s not to love? A sandy beach, a lake, and warm sunsets lighting up the water.
Oakfield Provincial Park
Near Fall River, it has a lakefront beach, lovely large open grassy fields with foot paths, and trails through the woods.
The Sir Sanford Fleming Dingle Park
A paved walkway along the water, lots of trees and shade, a stone tower, and lots of benches make this spot a wonderful option near the Armdale Rotary.
Runner up: The Frog Pond
Also super close to The Dingle is the Frog Pond. Let’s call it our runner up! It features a hiking trail around a lake, that is stunning in the fall.
The Enge family live out in Saskatchewan in farm country and have never been out East. They decided this year’s family vacation in Halifax was time to change that. It was the perfect opportunity to capture some very Atlantic feeling images at Peggy’s Cove.
We met Marina and Matt several years ago when we had the pleasure of photographing their wedding. It was beautiful, emotional, and full of joy and happy tears. Fast forward to two years ago, and their world and love expanded to include the most precious baby boy, Freddy. He was a sweet and happy baby, and I was happy to see the MacAdam family again recently for his second birthday photo session while all of his grandparents were visiting. He is still the same happy little man, albeit way more on the go these days.
Alison knows how much Ryan’s dog Flex means to him. He really is Ryan’s buddy. He loves going for walks at their favourite park, and has this adorable habit of absconding with favourite toys to hide them… including the rubber chicken I brought with me to the session. Every time we went and got it, Flex grabbed it and headed off to a new spot in some long grass, or in some brush and tried to bury it again. The morning was perfect for photography, and was a great way to start off Ryan’s birthday.
The Cooper family are Baby Planners, so we’ve been with them from the beginning, before Laughlan had even arrived. The very first time we met, Dragana and Russell were a little unsure of what to expect, but they dutifully dressed in the clothing styles I recommended and brought a hand knitted blanket that Russell’s mother gave him when he was a kid. It was a cold and wintery day, but the light was magical. After we got through the “get to know you” stage, they were glowing with excitement, and we had lots of fun giggling and taking pictures. The best part is that now they will have beautiful images to share with Laughlan when he’s older. Fast forward a few months, and you can see the bouncing baby boy himself, at newborn and most recently sitting up (6 months ish). They will complete their Baby Plan next spring around his first birthday, and will receive a collage of their favourite images from each session to remember all of these amazing milestones of the first year of his life. We are also talking about designing an album after the last session so that they have a portable and archival way to hold onto lots of images that they will love forever. More on that to come!
