Brides 2016 | Halifax Bridal Show

Brides 2016 is a wedding show that happens every year in January at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax. We had some major weather, but that didn’t stop people stopping in for some awesome inspiration, conversation, and chances to win some great prizes. Melissa and I really enjoyed meeting all of the brides and couples, and it was great reconnecting with other Halifax wedding vendors.

      Marilyn & Peter’s 50th Anniversary Party

Big milestones are the best! Everyone gathers around and celebrates many years together, and the bonds they share with one another. It’s a time full of reminiscing, laughter, and great stories. When I asked Marilyn and Peter what advice they had for newer couples, they said that there wasn’t any specific or magic pearl of wisdom, but that you had to keep working on the relationship through the good times and the bad. They are a great example of how to do it right!

The meal was perfect, with good food and great company. Their daughter Jennifer spoke first and said grace, and her sister Christine toasted the happy couple. The children had fun, and inspected the chocolate fountain… just for quality control, you understand 😉

It was a happy day. Here are a few of my favourites from their brunch gathering at Elements on Hollis in The Westin Hotel.

International Women’s Day breakfast | Halifax event photography

The Centre for Women in Business’ annual International Women’s Day breakfast event was a sell out again this year. The key note this year was made by Annette Verschuren, the former President of The Home Depot Canada, and she had a very inspiring story about being a female leader in business.

SPCA Pet Photos with Santa | Halifax pet photography, dog photographer

Every year I volunteer to photograph pets with Santa at their annual fund raiser Santa Pix. Both of my cats come from the SPCA, and I know they do good work. This was really brought home to me when I had the opportunity to photograph on a ride along with one of their Special Constables a few years ago. There are so many animals out there who just need a helping hand… or paw!

This great fund raiser is a lot of fun, and I generally end up photographing hundreds of furred, feathered, and quilled family members. Here are a few of my favourites from this year, listed in order of the date photographed: Sunny Side Mall, Pet Valu – Larry Utek, and Fall River Animal Hospital.

Junior Achievement | Halifax event photography

Junior Achievement is a great organization that teaches high school aged students about running a business. The programs teach valuable life skills, and although not every participant goes on to run their own business, a large percentage do. It’s a wonder that schools don’t make business classes part of the regular curriculum.

Two recent Junior Achievement events were the Executive Training day, and the Pitch It Regionals events.

There was some really valuable information presented at the Executive Training day, including advice on what roles executives play in companies, marketing, and production management. It was really neat to listen to the presenters and I captured the atmosphere in the rooms. The students were really interested and engaged and asked lots of questions.

The Pitch It events happened all around the province, and the following images are from the Halifax Pitch It which took place at the Waegwoltic Club. You could practically slice the excitement and nerves in the room as the kids prepared to present their pitches for their 2015 JA companies to a panel of coaches. There were some really neat companies, that were as wide and varied as the students were themselves.
