Chloe’s Rock the Dress

There is no question that portrait and wedding photographer’s winter months are slower photographically speaking, and are mostly spent on exciting administrative stuff like bookkeeping, business planning, and other dreary tasks that do not involve a camera. Whoo-hoo! So by February I was craving long summer days with beautiful sunsets and the rewarding feeling of making someone feel fabulous with photography.

Chloe to the rescue! She is a total superstar… we even went outside in FEBRUARY during her rock the dress session for some pictures.

Jade’s Wish Granted

Jade is a beautiful teen aged girl with a bright spirit! I felt humbled this weekend watching her excitement as her Shopping Spree/Prom Extravaganza wish was granted by the Make-a-Wish Foundation Atlantic Canada.

The day started our with a shopping spree at the Halifax Shopping Centre, then an afternoon at Sykea Spa, a portrait session with yours truly, followed by the big reveal in her suite at The Westin where we were waiting to surprise her with 12 prom dresses and shoes to choose from for her upcoming graduation.

In the end she was gifted with her dress by All Dressed Up, her shoes from KAS Shoes, the Crown Sutie from the Westin, decor from Simple Touch event decor, jewelry from Silverstone Jewelry, and hair and makeup from Sykea Spa, and photography coverage of the day and a Portrait Session a la moi.

The day was exciting, emotional, and so very very rewarding for all of us. When she walked into the suite, she was speechless, and we knew her wish had been granted… and more.

Nathan loves watching Scooby Doo and jumping up and down, but when I asked him to go over and give his mom a hug, magic happened!

It was such a pleasure photographing Dixie and Shane’s girls.

Ashlynn brought out all of her favourite toys and she was so playful. One of my favourite moments was when she looked down to read me a story.

Hayden had the most amazing baby blues, and she loved to cuddle.

Journey through life

It is such a joy to meet a couple on one of the happiest days of their life, their wedding day, and then follow their journey through life. This is exactly what happened with Suzie and Andrew. We had the pleasure of meeting them back in 2006 when they were married and I was honored to capture their growing family this year.

Gavin is one of the busiest three year olds I have ever met! I knew a portrait of him sitting still and smiling at the camera just wouldn’t capture his big personality, so we went for a more documentary style.

This is one of my favorites. He is in the moment, doing his thing, and it is so real.

Being themselves

I am so glad to have met Ruth at Pet Value this year when I was the photography sponsor during the SPCA Santa Pix fund raiser. Ruth, Ian, Jayne, Luke, and their dog Jessie were fabulous at the session and we had lots of fun.

One of my favorite moments was when they were walking together over a bridge and just being themselves. Ruth and Jayne smiled like they have done 100 times before, Luke walked confidently with the group, and Ian and Jessie look happy to be in the middle of it all.

What a great day.

Which is harder, kids or pets?

It was really fun to sponsor the SPCA Santa Pix again this year. Photographing pets is a lot like photographing children. Sometimes with shy ones you have to go slow, and sometimes with excited ones you have to let them burn off some energy before you start taking pictures. Either way, I love winding them up and then sending them home
