Featured: Baby Plan | newborn photographer

The Cooper family are Baby Planners, so we’ve been with them from the beginning, before Laughlan had even arrived. The very first time we met, Dragana and Russell were a little unsure of what to expect, but they dutifully dressed in the clothing styles I recommended and brought a hand knitted blanket that Russell’s mother gave him when he was a kid. It was a cold and wintery day, but the light was magical. After we got through the “get to know you” stage, they were glowing with excitement, and we had lots of fun giggling and taking pictures. The best part is that now they will have beautiful images to share with Laughlan when he’s older. Fast forward a few months, and you can see the bouncing baby boy himself, at newborn and most recently sitting up (6 months ish). They will complete their Baby Plan next spring around his first birthday, and will receive a collage of their favourite images from each session to remember all of these amazing milestones of the first year of his life. We are also talking about designing an album after the last session so that they have a portable and archival way to hold onto lots of images that they will love forever. More on that to come!

Business headshots on location

If your company has a boardroom or a large office, or you have access to one, business headshots for your team are easy. It can be as simple as a blank wall (as pictured here). We bring all of the professional lighting and camera equipment to transform your space into a studio, and your staff can come and go with ease and then get back to their day. When prepping everyone on what to wear, suggest that they dress for their best client, and choose solid colours. Bonus points if clothing coordinates with your brand, because online and in print, subconsciously it will appear more polished.

Nova Scotia SPCA Santa Pix | Pet photos

It’s that time of year again, when we jump up and down and fawn over all the fur babies who come to have their photo taken with Santa. The event supports the Nova Scotia SPCA, and we volunteer our portable photolab and our time to photograph at two locations. We will be at Jolly Tails on November 27th and PetValu on December 4th. Come and see me squawk, squeak, yip, clap, meow, and hiss. It’s as entertaining to watch as it is to do, I promise! See you there.

Backyard fall family photos

If you have space in your backyard, it might be the perfect location for your fall family photography session, especially if your children are young. Fall can be chilly, so having the option to go in to get warmed up or transition the photography session indoors, can mean you get better photos with little ones who get cold quickly. Extra layers under clothing are a great way to keep warm, but still show off your style. Choose colours that go with your decor, so that you are not limited later when deciding how to display your images.

Julie & Andrew | Halifax Nova Scotia Wedding Photography

Andrew and Julie are kind and goofy. What I like most about them, is that they actively cultivate a life rich in good memories. Her shenanigans make him laugh, and he is always up for whatever fun idea she has next.

Their wedding day began in their home town of Beaverbank / Lower Sackville. Andrew got ready at his brother’s home, and Julie at her mother and father’s. The day was warm and and the wind blew Julie’s hair in this kind of rebel chique look that couldn’t be more stunning if it was planned that way. The ceremony way at St. John Vienny Church, and it was an emotional wedding. Andrew’s mother is a strong woman so it was really beautiful when she had a happy cry. The best part was when Julie’s parents gave her a big squeeze at the end of the ceremony.

Afterward we headed to the Inn On The Lake in Fall River for photos and an intimate reception including about 40 Andrew and Julie’s closest family and friends. It was wonderful because everyone got to spend more time with the them, and everyone who was invited knew that they held a special place in Andrew and Julie’s hearts.

Here is what Julie and Andrew had to say about their wedding photography:

“It was a pleasure working with you. Thank you for all your help and work on the pictures. You’ve told the story of our wedding day – exactly what we wanted. Looking through the pictures brings us back to all the emotions, and many of the great moments. Thank you!”

– Julie and Andrew

Gift of memories | Halifax family photographer

The Jreige family wanted to give something special to grandmother this year. Something that would hold more meaning than another piece of pretty jewelry. Something that would make her light up, every time she sees it. They decided on a family photography session.

The day of the session I found out that Souad is a bit of a ham, and loves the camera. She is so vibrant and sweet. She did goofy poses, thinking I wouldn’t catch them (but I did), and she made her grandkids giggle. Mark, the youngest, and her are best buds. She barely had to look at him to get him to burst out into laughter.

Maria & Elias were playful, and loved it when they had the chance to show me how high they could jump… it might have even become a little bit of a competition between them. When they finally needed a break, it was wonderful to have a chance to capture some images of Nadia and Rob together as a couple. So often things in life get busy, and so it’s extra nice to stop and breath, and enjoy a snuggle with your partner… and a photography session is just the perfect excuse!

The Jerige family are close, and it was a pleasure to capture their connection with one another.

Tara & Jerome | Comfort Inn and Ashburn Golf Club Wedding

I have known Tara for a few years, and I have always loved how expressive and positive she is. She’s funny, bubbly, and she’s the kind of girl that has her friend’s back. I’d been hearing about Jerome a lot lately, and so when Tara mentioned they had gotten engaged, I was stoked to meet him. Turns out, he’s a tech geek just like me. We got chatting over coffee during their wedding consultation about the best parts to order to custom build your own computer, phone apps, and lots of other tech stuff. Tara’s eyes glazed over a little bit, but she’s used to him being excited about new toys.

They had a great wedding day, even if it was a wet one. After the ceremony we all piled into the SUV limo to go to a park for photos, but the minute we opened the doors, the heavens opened up. Fortunately the Comfort Hotel where they got ready in the morning has a gorgeous modern reception area, and they were happy to have us photograph the wedding photos there. The weather dried up later at the reception and we were even able to go out during a foggy sunset for a few more photos of just the two of them together.

Here is what Tara & Jerome had to say about their wedding photography:

“You did such an amazing job! Thank you for being very positive and a blast to work with. You were great getting children to smile and look at the camera. I don’t know how you do it, but you make magical photos. You can make dark photos in the brightest sunlight, and light photos in the dark. I would HIGHLY recommend you. You are the best!”

Business Headshots Halifax

Have you ever met someone for a meeting, and felt a disconnect between the profile photo you saw online and the person standing in front of you shaking your hand? Having an up to date photo of yourself at your current age (and looking fabulous), with your current haircut and stlyed the way you normally wear it can go a long way to building trust with the people you meet. If you don’t look the way you appear online, it can feel a little offputting to the person meeting you for the first time, especially if they reasearched you beforehand. Build trust, keep it fresh.

Brian wanted to appear confident but approchable in his business portraits, and we think he nailed it!
