Baby's first year - presenting Kaiya

What a cutie! I just got back from our session with Kaiya's family and I couldn't wait to see the images, so I thought I'd share one!

We all had a good laugh when she had a little accident on dad. She just looked at us like nothing had happened, and all we could do was giggle and mop up. That's a hazard of the job when holding naked babies :)

We met Lydia Bugden, Partner at Stewart McKelvey, through her involvement with the charitable organization Phoenix Youth Programs. www.PhoenixYouth.ca

Phoenix is a great organization that has programs for at-risk and homeless youth in Halifax. This cause is very near to my heart, because growing up in P.E.I. my best friend really could have used the services they provide. So in honor of that friend, I have been volunteering my photography services with Phoenix ever since I found out about them.

Nacked Back - Sassy Session

The thing I like best about a Sassy Session is that moment when the person being photographed just lets loose and feels completely free. They relax and you can see the tension go out of their body. You can just tell that they feel beautiful! I think that every woman should experience this at least once in her life. It also makes a great gift for someone special.

While not everyone is brave enough to do this in the great outdoors, it sure is worth it! Here's one of my favorites from the session:

Heather-Jean's un-traditional Grad Portraits

With a major in math and a minor in engineering (soon to have her masters in engineering), she is one smart cookie! Heather-Jean doesn't do anything traditionally and she wanted to reflect that in her portrait session. Sunset and a black fedora were just the trick!

Celebrity Dreamscape 2009 in support of Phoenix Youth Programs

We've done a lot of work over the years with Phoenix Youth Programs. They have nine programs and services for at-risk and homeless youth between the ages of 12 – 24. Phoenix provides an innovative continuum of care from prevention to follow-up.

This year we had the pleasure of donating photography services again for their annual fund raising gala: Celebrity Dreamscape. My favorite part of the evening was the live auction. Stewart McLean of CBC's Vinyl Cafe hosted and even auctioned off tickets to his show and a promise to cook a turkey dinner at the winning bidders home. Three separate bidders took him up on it!

Lots of fun was had by all, and everyone was very generous for a great cause!

We had the pleasure of photographing the MacAulay family last weekend. Unfortunately earlier that week, one of the boys tripped and broke his lip. During the photography session he was all smiles!

2009 Shootout Competition Winner

Last weekend we won the 2009 Shootout Competition held at the annual Atlantic convention of the Professional Photographers of Canada.

Every year the rules change and participants are not informed of the details until the day of the session. This year, photographers were given an optional studio setup, a model, and ten minutes to create ten distinct and different photographs (of which one was chosen as best image). Competitors ranged from photography students to 30 year veterans.

I'm used to thinking on my feet, so to do something different, I used the hotel architecture and a blue recycling bag over my studio light to create a moody deep blue image.

The PPOC Atlantic was formed in 1933. The convention took place at the Delta Beausejour hotel in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Marry Christmas! Charlotte and Kayla are definitely ready for the Holidays. Kayla's tongue was perma-pink from all the candy canes she'd been eating :)
