Loughlin Michael was born late on Sunday night. He is Dragana and Russell’s first. He’s beautiful and strong, and at 5 days old, he was pretty much back up to birth weight already. It’s truly amazing how fast they grow.
We planned on a posed session for Loughlin, but he just wanted to be held so we switched over to more of a lifestyle session. Newborn sessions are a go with the flow kind of thing, and we take our cues from the baby. Dragana definitely didn’t mind all of the cuddle time. She was so great with him, whispering sweet nothings, and rubbing his back and belly. They knew they would love him, but they couldn’t possibly have guessed how much. She told me that from the first moment she saw him, she was totally filled up with love for him. That just makes you want to have a long, happy sigh, doesn’t it? Russell impressed me too. He had this little trick where he would run his fingers down Loughlin’s forehead to the bridge of his nose and then back again. It was kind of the magic happy button for Loughlin, and I haven’t met very many parents who know that trick (I use a variation of this to encourage little eyes to close). I can tell that they are both going to be amazing parents.
It was really nice to be able to include the baby blanket hand knit by Russell’s mom. One day it will be a family heirloom, and having photographs of Loughlin sleeping with it, will be really precious. Plus it perfectly matched their decor and clothing choices, so when they decide where to display the images, they won’t have to worry about clashing colours or styles.
