Emily told me that she was drawn to the images on our website that were more in the moment and fun, so for their maternity session, the theme for the evening was a light hearted one. The beach itself was a natural choice. Emily and Tim spend a lot of time on the beach and at the cottage. They love being by the water. We ended up at Rainbow Haven Beach, and since it is only open until 6:00p at this time of year, we knew we would have a limited time, or risk being on the wrong side of the gates when they were locked.
The bromegrass was long and golden as we headed down the board walk to the ocean. We brought a nice little a-frame tent to give Emily, Tim and Jesse some shade on the otherwise shadeless beach. Since the parking lot closes early, we knew were going to miss out on the golden hour that gives that beautiful rich honey coloured light, and in the harsher light shade was a must. Jesse thought the tent made a great fort, and he was inside it before we even finished setting it up!
We had a great time playing in the sand, drawing pictures, and looking for creepy crawly things in the tide pools. As 6:00p approached we headed back to our cars and moved over to the harbour across from the main beach, and more importantly, on the other side of the gates. We ended up with beautiful honey light after all, and I think my favourite moment of the whole session was when Jesse ran along the shoreline with a beach towel billowing out behind him like a cape. That was good stuff!
